SR-DDRC Data Available for Download
The SR-DDRC has obtained a rich collection of datasets containing information about the substance use crisis. These datasets come from both public and proprietary (state) sources and include multiple types of information available at the regional, state, and county levels.
The center prioritizes drug-related data requested by the Bureau of Justice Assistance: overdose deaths, emergency medical services (EMS) encounters, prescription drug monitoring program (PDMP), emergency room (ER) visits, drug arrest information, and when possible, hospital admittance data, drug toxicology, and autopsy information. Most of this data is only available from proprietary state sources, but where possible, we provide standardized public data sources. The repository also includes multisector upstream data that can provide a well-rounded understanding of the drug crisis and factors that influence it.
Below we describe the public data currently available for direct download followed by the proprietary state data that will become available as we further develop the center. These data are provided according to these limitations.
- Data provided below should NEVER be used to identify individuals within the datasets, neither to identify their name and identity nor to create a profile that could be linked to their identity.
- No attempt should be made to determine any suppressed values in the datasets provided. Suppressed values are intentional to protect the privacy of individuals in the datasets.
- Data use must abide by all other terms and conditions set forth by the original data owners. This information can be found by reviewing the respective pages for each dataset in our Technical Documentation Library.
- All data was accurate at the time of download from the original data owner. Data is periodically updated, and these updates may include updates to the data made by the original data owner.

Public Dataset Descriptions
The following public datasets serve as the regional cross-boundary foundation of the SR-DDRC data repository. The spatial (geographic) and temporal (time period) resolution of the datasets varies with most of the data available at the level of state by year. These geospatial variables are the keys used by the SR-DDRC to linking these data tables (i.e., state x year data may be joined to state x year data). The figure below identifies the data sources in the repository and the spatial and temporal resolution of the dataset.

External links are provided to data documentation for data sets for which the SR-DDRC has not yet drafted unique data documentation guidance.
